PrEP counselling is individual and confidential. In counselling, you can ask and talk about exactly the topics that are important and relevant to you. Counselling is provided by sexual health specialists with expertise in PrEP. We do not document visits in patient information systems, such as Omakanta.
You are welcome to discuss topics such as the following:
- What is PrEP medication and how is it used?
- What are the different ways PrEP can be used?
- How can I access PrEP treatment? How is the treatment arranged in practice?
- What possible side effects can PrEP have?
- How is PrEP treatment and my health monitored?
- What if I face challenges in using PrEP or with treatment follow-up?
Counselling discussions often also include different aspects of sexual life. These may involve, for example, HIV-related risks and situations, substance use during sex, previous sexually transmitted infections, and health considerations that need to be taken into account when using PrEP medication.
We do not provide referrals to treatment in counselling. If you would like to start PrEP medication and you live in the HUS area, you can call the HUS Genital Diseases Outpatient Clinic directly. Elsewhere in Finland, you can contact your local wellbeing services county directly and ask how to access PrEP treatment in your area.
PrEP medication is intended for people who do not have HIV but are at significant risk of becoming infected. At Hivpoint’s PrEP counselling, you can get answers to your questions about PrEP as well as support when you are considering starting PrEP or are experiencing challenges using it.
Most often, PrEP counselling takes place in a face-to-face meeting at Hivpoint’s office in Kalasatama, Helsinki.
