Some facts about HIV treatment:

  • People living with HIV are treated in specialized Outpatient Clinics.
  • The treatment includes appointments with a doctor and a nurse approximately twice a year.
  • Lifelong HIV medication is a vital part of HIV treatment.
  • Usually, people living with HIV can get medicines for about three months at a time.

In Finland, the challenge of the implementation of HIV treatment is that a significant amount of new HIV infections is not diagnosed until several years after the infection. HIV infection can only be diagnosed with an HIV test.

Stigma and fear of discrimination prevents people from getting tested and their access to care. Sharing information and talking openly about HIV has a significant impact on how everyone can prevent infections, get tested and seek treatment.

Access to HIV testing and care should be available for everyone without any fear of stigma and discrimination!
