Counselling on PrEP
Page last reviewed 30.9.2026
Hivpoint offers counselling appointments where you can talk to a professional about sexuality and sexual health. During the appointment, you can also ask questions and talk to us about PrEP, medication used to prevent HIV. Counselling appointments are always free of charge and confidential. We can arrange the appointment at Hivpoint’s office in Helsinki or remotely.
Counselling is provided by Hivpoint’s sexual health specialists with expertise in PrEP. We do not document any information from the counselling sessions in healthcare patient records, such as Kanta.
We do not provide referrals to PrEP treatment. If you would like to start PrEP medication and you live in the HUS area, you can call the HUS Genital Diseases Outpatient Clinic directly. Elsewhere in Finland, you can contact your local wellbeing services county directly and ask how to access PrEP treatment in your area. You can find contact information from here.
We’re here for you when
- you want reliable information on PrEP medication,
- you are considering starting PrEP and wondering whether it is right for you,
- you are considering which way of using PrEP would work best for you,
- you want more information about how PrEP care is arranged in practice, or
- you are experiencing challenges with taking PrEP or with follow-up care.
During PrEP counselling, we can also talk about other topics related to sexuality and sexual health. You decide what you want to talk about. Topics may include HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, their prevention, testing and treatment, shame or fear related to HIV and STIs, chemsex and substance use in connection with sex, pleasure and preferences, different ways of having sex, consent and boundaries, and identity, such as sexual orientation.
