Introducing Healthy Horizons: Supporting Immigrant Women’s Well-being project

There are seven women of all ages in the picture, They are all smiling and looking at the camera.

We are thrilled to announce  a transformative project that’s set to make waves in our immigrant communities! “Healthy Horizons,” is a project that provides information and skills for immigrant women living in Finland.

Finland is nowadays a tapestry of cultures, and “Healthy Horizons” celebrates this diversity. We believe that our differences are what make us stronger, and we’re dedicated to uplifting these women’s welfare. During the project participants will get an overview on how sexual education is seen in Finland and around the world.

“Healthy Horizons” is the bridge between knowledge and impact. The project aims to spread information on frequently neglected subjects, making a safe environment for immigrant women to discuss topics that are not always brought up. This can enhance their overall health, empower in terms of prevention, and reduce any prevailing stigmas.

At the heart of the project are a series of free dynamic health education workshops. These sessions will focus on critical topics, including sexual health, sexual rights, STIs, and STI prevention. Our goal is simple: to provide information and skills to immigrant women that can enhance their well-being. Our aim is to break down barriers and to reduce stigma, particularly around issues like STIs, including HIV and AIDS. When we understand, we can empathize, support, and create a more inclusive society.

“Healthy Horizons” comes as a series of community-centered evening events. Each event will be a dive into that culture, featuring delicious food, interactive activities, discussions, and the project offers safe and fun activity for the small children of participants. And, as a bonus, a doctor will eventually be present to answer questions.

The project spans two years, split into two terms. Project Coordinator, Maya Viecili, with Hivpoint, have crafted a project that’s set to improve immigrant women’s knowledge on health.  And the good news is that the events will start still in 2023!

“Healthy Horizons” is made possible by the support of Gilead Nordics. Their commitment to improving healthcare outcomes aligns perfectly with our mission to empower and inform immigrant women. The launch of “Healthy Horizons” is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to embark on this journey. Stay tuned.
