The Helsinki Pride Week is here! The largest human rights and culture event in Finland, Helsinki Pride will be celebrated from 28 June to 4 July. As Helsinki Pride’s official community partner, Hivpoint also organizes a variety of programs during the Pride Week. The year 2021 is a special anniversary year as it has been:
- 50 years since the decriminalization of homosexuality
- 40 years since the removal of homosexuality from the mental health classification
- 30 years since the founding of the Helsinki Pride community
- 25 years since the development of the HIV medication that has saved millions of lives
Year 2021 will also be remembered as a year when free PrEP treatment became available in Finland during the Pride Week, on July 1st 2021.

Together with HIV Finland we celebrate the 25-year anniversary of the introduction of an effective ARV medication for the treatment of HIV infection. The medication was a turning point in the treatment of HIV and it has saved millions of lives. With the help of the medication people living with HIV can now continue to live a healthy and full lives.
Participating in the panel discussion: hlbti activist Jussi Nissinen, author and influencer Eino Nurmisto, MEP Alviina Alametsä, a person living with HIV, an infectious disease doctor as well as representatives of HIV organizations. Project coordinator Sami Tuunainen from Hivpoint will also be on the panel.

Walk-in HIV rapid testing for sexual and gender minorities

Anonymous and free of charge, walk-in HIV rapid testing at Hivpoint’s new office (Hermannin rantatie 2 B, Kalasatama) from 12 pm to 6 pm. The result is ready in 1 minute. No appointment needed. While getting tested, it is possible to get information about sexual health and sexually transmitted diseases. Free condoms, oral sex protectors (dental dams) and lubes are available.
Todays’s testing is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible, stair lift is out of order.

Today, July 1, 2021, HIV prophylaxis prep medication has become free of charge in Finland for those who have been prescribed the medication in public health care. In this Instagram Live event we will talk about user experiences and how to to apply for prep treatment now and in the future.
